Al Lopez Park

Perfect for fido, dogs on leashes are welcome and are allowed off leash in the huge dog park.

Just off the traffic of Dale Mabry is a hidden gem, it's Al Lopez Park. A big park as compared to most city parks, a 125-acre playground! Room for your choice of activities...bike, rollerblade, picnic, jog, playground, soccer, and even fishing! Al Lopez provides a leisurely atmosphere for the entire family to picnic, grill out, and relax under some big shade trees.

Events

The park has a long history of usage for tailgaters during football and Yankee spring training games. It is perfect with room to toss the football and good facilities, including electricity for TV pre- and post-game shows. The shelters and BBQ grills get plenty of use around game day. The park is used for both celebration (Heritage Festival) and running races such as the Chilly Willy Classic and Run thru the Jungle. You can be assured that virtually every weekend you will see a decorative shelter, with balloons and a festive crowd celebrating a birthday!

Dog Park

Dogs of Tampa escape urban stresses at the Al Lopez dog park. The doggie Doctor always says that exercise and socialization are critical for a happy, healthy, and well-behaved dog. Well here you go, as Al Lopez has a huge area in the western portion of the park dedicated to Fido. The dog park is nicely shaded, is surrounded by a 4-foot fence.

Party Time Shelter Rentals

Yeah...how about celebrating a birthday or having an anniversary party in a great outdoor setting? The park has fantastic shelter areas to use for your fiesta! They are great, and spaced out for privacy. Bring your cooler, grub, charcoal, and it is outdoor party time. Al Lopez Park is currently one of six parks within the city that rent out shelters in advance in order to host a gathering. It is good fun.

Right Next Door

The park sits right next to Raymond James Stadium (formerly Tampa Stadium) is home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, University of South Florida Bulls, and the Outback Bowl, as well as concerts and special events. Al Lopez is also just across the street from Legends Field is the spring training home of the New York Yankees and home to the Florida State League, Tampa Yankees.

Al Lopez Park Questions or Comments

Al Lopez for Bucs Games

Hi, We used to use the park for the Bucs football game tailgating, but now you must park in the line parking spaces. Before, you could park on the grass all over the place. It was great, you could find your own spot under the trees and enjoy the park before and after the games. Unless you arrive very early, Hillsborough County has made it useless to take advantage of it now.

Weekend Soccer Games

We would like people to know that pick up soccer games are held both Saturday and Sunday mornings. This is informal, but lots of guys and gals do show up. We would like to invite more recreational soccer players to come out and join in the fun here at Al Lopez Park.

Tampa City Park

Al Lopez Park is just the perfect distance for both biking and jogging around. We really enjoy big and wide open family parks. I just can't handle doing little circles at the high school track anymore, and that is how I found the park. You can catch us walking and jogging the trails four or five times a week, with our Tampa fitness group.
