Fishing around Anna Maria
Q: Another holiday week approaches, and this time we are getting out of the house and heading to the coast for some fishing and dining. We live in near i-drive orlando, and have decided to hit the bradenton, sarasota area. We have a few days which we are going to focus on fishing. It appears the fish are very hungry around holmes beach, specifically anna maria island park. The had an article about it in our local paper. Any suggestions on the best spot to fish without a boat.

A: I am sure you will have a good time checking out the fishing scene and the Anna Maria Island restaurants. You should start with by heading down to Bayfront Park, and fishing off the one of the two piers, Rod N Reel and City Pier. These are great for catching red fish, flounder, sheepshead, and more. Plus, they have everything right there to make it more pleasurable: bait, lures, cold drinks, beer, food, etc. They have benches to fish off of, and you get great views of the Anna Maria Island coastline.
As you head down towards Sarasota, a good spot to toss your line is at Ken Thompson Park, Sarasota Bayfront Park, or South Lido Beach Park. All of these are within a few miles of Downtown Sarasota. While you are down that way, be sure to swing by and hit one of the great restaurants at St. Armands Circle or the gulf side bar at the Longboat Key Hilton. There is just so much to do around Bradenton and Sarasota. Enjoy!
Anna Maria Bayfront Park
We go over to Anna Maria Island Bayfront Park for family picnics and birthday parties. The kids can swim and the park has plenty of shade to picnic under. We recommend this beach park. The shallow waters of Anna Maria Island Sound make it a great spot for those that like to fish from the beach.

Bradenton Parks
The parks and boating around manatee county and Bradenton are just the best. The county has lots of boat ramps, plenty of boater friendly restaurants, and really makes for great boating. We recently saw one of the boating magazines at Border's Books that voted the Tampa Bay area as number three in the United States for living and boating communities.
