Captiva Island Questions or Comments
Captiva RV Campgrounds
Q: Our entire family is planning to make a big summer RV vacation trip down to Florida. We are making a big loop through the state, and our suggested itineraries has us making stops in Jacksonville, Daytona Beach Shores, Fort Wilderness Campground, ending in Captiva Island. We heard the shopping and attractions on the island are wonderful. Do you know what RV Parks are available in the area? Any suggestion to checkout would be nice. Thanks again for your lodging guides, which have been a big help.

A: Those are some wonderful places for tours and day trips in our great state. Sounds like you have your itineraries just about ironed out. I believe the reason you have had trouble identifying the Captiva RV parks is because there are none that we know of. However, on Sanibel Island there is a camping spot called Periwinkle Park. It is centrally located near lots of shopping and restaurants, with about a five minute walk to the beach. From the beach, you can see all the way over to Fort Myers Beach. I point this out, as Fort Myers Beach is where you might end up, as that island city has more RV options including: San Carlos RV Park, Indian Creek Resort, Red Coconut RV Park, and Gulf Waters RV Resort. Where ever you end up around the beaches of Lee County, you are certain to have a great Florida RV vacation. Hope that helps you.
What to See
Be sure to see Captiva Beach, which has been named "Florida's most romantic beach", and with its great sunsets, it is very easy to understand why. You can also find some really neat shells along the beach, especially early in the morning. Stop and checkout South Seas Resort and its great yacht harbor. Our first visit to this barrier island could not have been more picturesque, due to the area's primitive natural beauty.

Captiva Things to Do
Captiva Kayaking
One of the better things to do in the area is kayaking. You can rent them right there in the downtown entertainment district. The water is picturesque and then some. A two hour trip is perfect for fitness oriented people. You just paddle gently along, with great views of the real estate along the water and the fish.

Captiva Beach
You can find captiva beach at the end of captiva drive, and just look for the small parking lot. Be advised that the parking is tough here and you need to find creative parking spots. We stayed at Casa Ybel Resort Hotel and just cruised over on bikes.
