Cocoa Beach Questions or Comments
Finding a Spot
Q: We have been reading in the paper that parking is a big issue over at the beaches. One article said that the lots at Alan Shepard Park Beach fill up by 10am. Wow, that must mean these places are great to go to. Can we find a spot? Heading down to Disney's Port Orleans Riverside and going to stay for a week, check out the shopping at international drive, then head to cocoa beach. Any heads up information would be appreciated.

A: I have to admit, that I totally adore cocoa beach. What a wonderful place to take a vacation in Florida. That entire area just is too cool, and has so much to do. First to your primary question, Alan Shepard Park Beach has a good amount of parking, but on the weekends, it does fill up. The best thing is to drop your family off, with all your gear, close to the park. Then, just circle around and find a free spot down along the streets. You might have a five minute walk, but it will save you a few bucks and you won't have to try and beat the crowds to the beach. Also, expect a great stay at Disney's Port Orleans Riverside, as we stayed right next door at the sister resort, Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter. We went to all the pools in both resorts and were very impressed indeed. Plan to spend at least one day shopping at I-Drive, as that entertainment district is as good as it gets. Best Wishes.

What to See
When you check out the surf shop, stop and see both the outpost and watersports areas. Ron Jon's rents beach bikes, boards, in-line skates, etc. They even have a surf cafe to get some lunch. Ron Jon Surf Shop is a historic part of the space coast, don't miss it.

About Brevard County
Brevard County Florida
Just about 35 miles east of Orlando, Brevard County prides itself as the home of famous Kennedy Space Center, the only facility in the world that launches the Space Shuttle. Then you have Port Canaveral, the second busiest cruise port in the world. Throw in over 70 miles of beautiful Atlantic Ocean beaches and the large collection of endangered wildlife and plants...and you will be ready to visit!
Cape Canaveral
Cape Canaveral is the most famous for being home to the Kennedy Space Center. It is the place where America's first satellite attempt, Vanguard One, crumpled and exploded so embarrassingly in December 1957, that newspapers labeled as Kaflopnik. This is the location where Explorer One was launched and helped to reclaim American pride in January 1958. It is where Alan Shepard and John Glenn first flew into space and where the mighty Saturn Five pushed Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins all the way to the Moon. Today it is most known for its regular Space Shuttle launches, and the many other commercial and military satellites which are launched from the Cape Canaveral.
