The Florida Aquarium does a good job of providing an interactive learning environment about aquatic life. While not for everyone, children and anyone interested in fish, aquariums, and close up encounters, should enjoy the entertainment.★★★★
cleanliness comment
Ratings
It is all clean and well maintained, but be prepared for humidity and sea odors in certain areas.★★★★
parking comment
Ratings
Despite the parking garage and the number of parking lots, they do fill up on peak days and during St. Pete Times Forum events. However, this is less common and overflow parking is available, but you may need to walk a bit further. More free parking in the area is needed. ★★★★

dining/drinks comment

The Aquarium has some munchies to get you by. Even better is Channelside, right next door. There you have plenty of selection to choose from, ranging from $$ to $$$$, and the choices continue to grow. Some of the big favorites are: NYPD Pizza, Splitsville, Bennigann's, Grille 29, Hooters, Thai Thani, Gallagher's Steak House, and Stumps Supper Club. ★★★★★

traffic/access comment
Ratings
Sure, this is a happening area and traffic can delay you. Eastbound traffic from the Platt Street Bridge to the Aquarium and the Channelside entertainment complex can get backed up a bit. Plan ahead during events. ★★★

Activities

This exhibit is all about close encounters such as: the shark tank, stingray touching, and numerous behind the glass views of fish and other creatures. Kids will enjoy the fun zone, climbing at Shipwreck Shore and blasting water cannons in a two story pirate ship.

biking comment

This is a great area to bike around, especially on the weekends when the downtown population does not migrate in. You can start and end at Channelside, and on the way cruise around Harbor Island, Downtown Tampa, Davis Island, and Bayshore Boulevard.
boating comment
Ratings
It is probably best to leave the boating around here to the cruise ships. However, you certainly can boat in and up the river, or explore the harbor area. For the most part the water is deep and dark, but the cityscape provides nice scenery.

Tampa Attraction

This is a nice tampa based attraction, and is great for the local children and for school outings. Tampa needs more fun spots like this, such as Lowry Park Zoo, which is great too. After school activities around Tampa are growing, and parents just love it.

Great Places to Take Children in Tampa

We agree with the last post that Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo is a super Tampa things to do. But, there is a lessor known neighborhood park named Al Lopez Park. This free park is super for kids, and let me repeat free. Yes, no entrance fee or parking charge. Al Lopez Park is a big park, with a nice playground, soccer, and picnicing. The parks hosts numerous events throughout the year, a great place to take children in Tampa.
