Camping at its Best

The campground is part of a huge county park, with great views and one of the top-10 beaches in Florida. The campground's waterfront location is what sets it apart. The multi-lane boat ramp just and beach access are close by. Reserve ahead, to get the better spots.

parking		comment Ratings You can park the RV or tent, 2 vehicles, and your boat trailer at the site. Additional boat trailer space is located across the street from the entrance. You can anchor your boat in the water overnight. ★★★★
restrooms		comment Ratings The restroom and shower areas were ok, but could be maintained and cleaned better to handle the humidity and mildew issues. ★★★
dining/drinks		comment Ratings You will need to go off site, but there are great waterfront restaurants and bars located within a few miles, at the northern part of Tierra Verde and St. Pete Beach. The campground has a general store for the basics.
kid friendly		comment Ratings A nice kid place, with the shorelines to explore and fish. A pool would be a big plus. ★★★★
dog friendly		comment Ratings Pets are permitted in area 2 (Sites 86-164). About a mile or two out to the main beach area is a huge paw playground and dog beach for off-leash action. It is big doggie fun at Fort Desoto Park. ★★★★★
traffic/access		comment Ratings Traffic getting in and out is not usually a problem, except when the bridges go up. Toll booths around the area are a hassle to some. ★★★

Activities

Splash in the sparkling waters around Fort Desoto, as this is a beach and boating haven. The main park has miles of great shoreline to walk, swim, fish, or launch your water craft. With lots of paved sidewalks, you are able to bike and rollerblade through it all. Fish right off of the seawalls inside the campground.

boating		comment Ratings A super boating spot, as you can explore each of the five core islands: Madelaine Key, St. Jean Key, St. Christopher Key, Bonne Fortune Key, and Mullet Key. From the boat ramp, it takes about 2 minutes to reach the Gulf. ★★★★★

camping		comment Ratings Great waterfront camp sites and the ability to leave your boat in the water overnight. ★★★★★
fishing		comment Ratings Off the pier, shoreline, dock, boat, or bridge...all of your fishing options at Fort Desoto. The park's location and marine topography creates one of the best fishing areas in Florida. ★★★★★
hiking/walking		comment Ratings Great walking and hiking around the campground and the entire park. Try a great walk down the beach and around the historic Fort. ★★★★★
