Boating Hot Spot
Boating near Honeymoon Island is very popular because of the calm waters, and small deserted islands available to explore. Caladesi Island is close by, and is a gem for boaters to travel around. If you enjoy boating, you'll want to spend the day relaxing out on the water, in the beautiful natural setting that you'll find in and around Honeymoon Island State Park.
About the Boating
Waves and surf vary in direct proportion to the wind. A westerly breeze typically means smooth water due to the land blockage. An easterly breeze more likely means choppier conditions. The Inter-coastal area provides a safe haven for beginning sailors and wind surfers.
Beach Boat Ramp
While not for large boats, the Dunedin causeway has an open boat-launching policy. You can trailer and launch small boats directly from the beach at no cost. This is extremely popular with locals, which is why you will find so many types of watercraft (wave runners, sailboats, kayaks, etc.) in the area. The weekends during the summer months can be very busy, but I have typically had no problem finding a spot to launch and park the trailer. We like the boat ramp's price, free!
