Honeymoon Island State Park and the connecting Dunedin Causeway offer locals and tourists alike a great waterfront playground for outdoor activities. With four miles of gulf front shoreline, the park is a great place for boating, sailing, or just relaxing at the beach. Beach goers experience clean beaches, scenic views, and smooth gulf waters perfect for wading and swimming. Honeymoon Island gives visitors the chance to experience a delightful, unspoiled Florida beach. Located in NE Pinellas County, this park is conveniently located to those in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and the greater Tampa Bay area in general.
It was a family outing, with kids in tow, as we embarked on a sunny Saturday outing to Honeymoon Island. As soon as we saw the water we knew the area was very playful with activities, as nearly everywhere we looked, we saw various types of watercraft. Boats, sailboats, and wave runners were bustling about. Questioning a local boater, we learned the high activity was due to the causeway's open boat launching rules, as the various types of boats launch directly from the beach. During our 4-hour visit, we spent most of the time in or around the water. We took in the dog beach, rented kayaks and paddled around, walked the beach, searched for shells in the sand, and finally snacked at the Honeymoon Cafe. A great outing indeed!
This seaside island getaway features great boating water, miles of beach walking, over a dozen lazy swings overlooking the water, a children's playground, fishing, a huge dog beach, nature trails, and scenic sunset views overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. If you have a small boat, or anything that floats, bring it. The best activity here is playing in and on the water!
If you like sunbathing, or have a small boat, this is the spot for you. The park is dog friendly, with a large dog beach. For those with small children, ample parking is available near the Honeymoon Cafe, where you will find concessions, cold drinks, restrooms, and showers.
We found this park to be very entertaining due to the myriad of boating and sail craft out on the water. With a nice breeze in the air, the boats cruise by on the blue-green waters off the island. This is a great beach for sunbathing, walking, and boat watching. If you enjoy being out on the water, it is a boater's paradise. The sunsets are spectacular, especially while sitting on a lazy waterfront swing. This is a great beach park the entire family will enjoy.
Note: Some areas of the park are more primitive than others, and farther from restroom facilities, so keep that in mind when you park. Parking is ample, but does not provide much shade. If you do not have a boat but enjoy being out on the water, take the boat ride out to Caladesi Island for added enjoyment.
