Thanks for pointing out so many of the very cool places to see in the Florida Keys. We love the history and it is documented so well for all to enjoy when visiting the area. In Key West they have a free exhibit called a Key Encounter that is a must see for those with children. Inside they have old photograph of the city which is amazing. The Seaport dock zone is loaded with history, be sure to tour it too.
Do take advantage of our fantastic Island History There is a lot behind the people that made our islands so special. Our shop (Keys to Life Art Studio) is just down the street from the monument. We love all the history, and the Dive Museum is a winner too.
What a Cool Thing to See It was an important time, as the monument memorializes the death of those that happened (approx. 400 people) in the 1935 Hurricane. It is actually made of of native keystone and contains the ashes of many storm victims. Look closely at the motif, which shows the hurricane's big waves and wind-blown trees.
