Pick out the most beautiful time of the day, so that the sun can let you look through the clear sea water. We get our best shells in three to six inches of the gulf, so that there is no competition with those that only look along the sandy shoreline. Stop over to the Sanibel Surf Shop and you can pick up the toys and tools to filter out larger chucks of shell-sand mixes. This is how our best sea treasures are found.

Tips to Shelling on Sanibel You have to listen to the lady at the Baily Shell Museum on Sanibel tell all the secrets to shelling. Now I know it is Christmas to March and it must be before low tide. That is why there were not too many on our trip to Bowman's in September. Late summer is the wrong time!
