Nokomis Beach

nokomis beach
Perfect for a nice beach day, relaxing and quiet, enjoy the view of shorebirds, sea grapes, and the waves. With no high rises, Nokomis Beach is pure old fashion Florida coastline.

It is time to visit a special beach area, one with lots of nature and a wide sandy beach. Yes...it is Nokomis Beach, known for the area's natural beauty, the miles of wide waterways that dominate the environment, uncrowded beaches, and its small-town charm.

This beach park includes both the Gulf-side beach zone, but also a Bayside playground and nature area. Located about thirty minutes south of Downtown Sarasota, Nokomis Beach Park is surrounded by water, with Lyons Bay and the intercoastal waterways to the east and the clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico to the west.

Getting Around

Walking and Biking

Nokomis Beach is a great spot to get some exercise with long walks along the shore and biking around this adorable beach town. Our favorite walk is to start at the Beach and head south, to take in the sights at North Jetty Park. There is plenty of activity here, plus a lot of neat boat traffic cruising in and out of the Pass. From here, you can cross over Casey Key Road, and return back to the north, along the Bay. There are nature areas, seawalls, and sidewalks that take you back up the intercoastal waterway and to your starting point.

The biking is great all over, including up Albee Road and around the quaint streets of the small, historic town of Nokomis. The back streets with waterfront real estate and unique condominiums are fun to check out. As you bike around you will get a sense of community that creates the pleasing ambience which defines the personality of Nokomis Florida.

Just Around the Corner

Downtown Venice

Just over the bridge to the south is Nokomis' sister community, Venice. It is a small beach town surrounded by waterways, accessed by three bridges. You will find this to be a friendly and warm community. The Downtown Venice District has unique shopping, art, and dining options. The pace is leisurely here, and the people are very friendly, as Floridians and Snow Birds alike mingle in the warm Florida sun.

More Info

The beach is open daily, with a lifeguard on-duty during the core parts of the day. If you need more information, visit scgov.net or call 941-861-7275.

Nokomis Beach Questions or Comments

We Love Nokomis Beach

Hello Guys, Thanks for the pictures and information on Nokomis Beach. We just loved it. The beach, park, and intercoastal was just a great way to enjoy the day. I had no idea that Venice Jetty Park was right there as well. Boy, those boats just fly through there. It was amazing. Say thanks to your staff!

Best Regards, Tim Wilky (Venice Beach Florida)

Surf Report

We got some big waves starting on Thursday, here in mid-May, as the cool front stormed in from the northwest. It was hot on waves, as hundreds of boards hit the Gulf, making for an exciting weekend for local surfers. Some of the big waves topped out at eight feet, and were consistently six feet all day long.

Florida Sightseeing

Oh the sightseeing around Nokomis Beach and over to Venice Beach is just the best. It is so natural, beautiful, and makes for a perfect morning or afternoon of walking. This is an area that is one of Sarasota County's things to do, on your must see itinerary.

Stephen King's Vermillion Key is Casey Key

Casey Key got a big part our of Stephen King's The Gingerbread Girl, as the fictional island Vermillion Key was actually inspired by the beauty and splendor of Casey Key, a south sarasota island.
