Tarpon Springs Greek Culture

tarpon springs

On any given day, you can experience the Greek culture that flourishes in Tarpon Springs, especially along Dodecanese Blvd. In addition, cultural icons can be seen throughout the town of Tarpon Springs. St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral is only a few blocks away from Dodecanese Blvd, and is well worth seeing. This church is a replica of St. Sophia Cathedral in Istanbul. In addition, Tarpon Springs also has an antique district along Tarpon Avenue, which is near the Cathedral.

About Greek Culture

You will encounter friendly people who enjoy showing their culture to visitors from around the world. The Greek culture is alive and well in Tarpon Springs, and is well worth experiencing. And if you happen to be in Tarpon Springs in January, make sure to see the feast of the Epiphany. This ceremony is held at Spring Bayou, a few blocks from Dodecanese Blvd. Local high school boys dive into the cool waters off Spring Bayou from small boats to retrieve a cross that is tossed into the water. The lucky boy who retrieves the cross receives an extra blessing from the Archbishop, and a year of good luck.
